You’ll be able to pull a screaming mandrake from its pot at the Harry Potter exhibit, which is filled with props from the filmed adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione (right). (Warner Bros/courtesy Everett Co)
One of the Hogwarts vignettes on display is this re-creation of Hagrid’s mancave, complete with its sofa-like armchair and the supersized clothing worn by Robbie Coltrane’s stunt double. At right, two items never before on display, both from the second installment of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows”: Hufflepuff’s cup and Rita Skeeter’s nasty, tell-all book about Hogwarts’ beloved headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Here’s a sneak peek at “Harry Potter: The Exhibition,” a veritable eruption of Hogwarts-iana from all seven films, the last of which comes out this summer. The sword of Gryffindor, Albus Dumbledore’s wand, the steely masks of the Death Eaters, the mold of Dobby (the CGI house elf), even Harry and Ron’s carved wooden beds — which Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint eventually outgrew — are being set up in separate scenic “vignettes” in the sprawling subterranean space of Discovery Times Square, where the exhibit opens April 5.
And while you won’t get to touch, say, Hagrid’s furry, belted “Monster Book of Monsters” (which opens when you stroke its spine), you can sit back in his sofa-size armchair, pull out a screaming mandrake in the herbology room and shoot a quaffel ball through a hoop. Quidditch, anyone? More information and tickets are available at DiscoveryTSX.com.
