LOS ANGELES — Shia LaBeouf said in an interview published Tuesday that he hooked up with costar Megan Fox when they worked together on the “Transformers” films.

“Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them,” he told Details magazine about his sexy costar in “Transformers” in 2007 and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in 2009.

“I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen,” he continued.

LaBeouf said he was not sure about Fox’s relationship status at the time of their fling. The “Jennifer’s Body” actress had an on-off relationship with actor Brian Austin Green from 2004 until their marriage in June 2010.

“I don’t know, man,” he said when asked if Fox, 25, was split from Green during their liaison, adding, “It was what it was.”

LaBeouf, 25, is busy promoting “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” the third film in the sci-fi franchise, which Fox was excluded from after she slammed director, Michael Bay.

“[Bay] wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is,” Fox said in a 2009 interview. “So he’s a nightmare to work for … He has no social skills at all.”

After the unflattering comments, the actress was reportedly booted from the franchise by producer Steven Spielberg and replaced by Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley — who plays Carly Spencer, the main squeeze of LaBeouf’s character Sam Witwicky.
