CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” certainly outrated its predecessor, “Larry King Live” — but viewership trended downward after a strong opening.

Last Monday’s premiere, featuring Oprah Winfrey, snared 2.1 million viewers. That number fell to 1.3 million viewers on Tuesday night (with guest Howard Stern), then a little over 1 million viewers on Wednesday and Thursday nights (with guests Condoleeza Rice and Ricky Gervais, respectively).

Viewership for MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” meanwhile, continues to trend upward: 8.9 million viewers last Thursday night, another series and network record.

On the daytime front, both “The View” and “The Talk” generated solid numbers for the week of Jan. 10-14.

“The View” (11 a.m./Ch. 7) had its most-watched week in almost six months, averaging 3.9 million viewers. That’s its best showing in that demo — and also in women 18-34 (293,000) and women 18-49 (869,000) — since the week of July 26.

Meanwhile, “The Talk” (2 p.m./Ch. 2) — which is often compared to “The View” — had its best week yet in total viewers (2.4 million), the second consecutive week it rose in that category.

Last, but not least:

* Ten-year-old actress Fatima Ptacek (“Sesame Street,” “The Royal Pains”) and Adrian Martinez (“Law & Order,” “Flight of the Conchords”) will read to schoolchildren at Adolph S. Ochs School and Academy (440 W. 53rd) on Wednesday as part of the SAG Foundation’s Children’s Literacy Initiative . . . Tila guest stars on Thursday’s episode of “$#*! My Dad Says” as one of Ed’s (William Shatner) neighbors . . . Melissa Peterman (CMT’s “Working Class”) in town later this week.
