John Walsh, who’s returning with new episodes of “America’s Most Wanted” — just picked up by Lifetime for its 24th season — says the show won’t deviate from its proven formula.
“All I know is catching bad guys and that’s all I wanted to do,” Walsh told me yesterday. “It will be the same format, just with new fugitives and some old [fugitives] I wish we could catch. We’ll still help to find missing kids. Lifetime has ordered 20 episodes where 13 [episodes] is the normal model for cable.”
Walsh still owes four prime-time “AMW” specials to Fox, which he agreed to do when the network cancelled the show earlier this summer. His first “AMW” special for Fox will air Oct. 29, with the Lifetime version targeted to premiering shortly thereafter.
“Lifetime will probably repeat the show, which will up our capture count and will give more exposure to help catch these creeps,” Walsh said. “They haven’t picked a night or time for the show, but they wanna go hard. They mentioned October, but we still have to saddle up.
“We collapsed our Washington office [when Fox cancelled the show] but Fox kept the ‘AMW’ hotline and the Web site going — and we caught four guys since our last show on June 15th. People are still going to the site; the public has played a tremendous part in getting us back on the air.”
