STARR REPORT
Ready, aim . . .
Forget “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” – it’ll be “Queer Eye for the Rich Guy” when this year’s Inner Circle lampoon takes (good-natured) aim at Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Plans for the annual spoof, staged by New York’s journalistic community, began gearing up last weekend, with Ch. 2’s John Slattery suggesting the title, alluding to Mayor Mike’s need for a (political?) makeover. Mary Murphy (Ch. 11), ex-WOR newshound Shelly Strickler, Melissa Russo (Ch. 4) and Bob O’Brien (Ch. 9) applauded the tentative ’04 title before hunkering down for a writing/strategy session. The show will be staged in April.
Last year’s show, “What’s He Smoking?” – a play on Bloomberg’s citywide smoking ban – featured Hizzoner singing “The Impossible Dream.”
*
Former CNBCer Martha MacCallum has joined Fox News Channel, where she’ll anchor “Fox News Live.” MacCallum anchored “Morning Call with Martha MacCallum and Ted David” and also created CNBC’s “Inside the Business” for “Business Center.”
FNC also announced that Janice Dean, late of WFAN’s “Imus In The Morning” (and Ch. 2 before that), has joined the network as a weather forecaster.
Last, but not least:
* Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke was on yesterday’s “Today” show, dishing about his scoop re: Britney Spears’ quickie marriage in Vegas.
* Tennis star Serena Williams guests on tonight’s “Law & Order: SVU” (10 p.m./Ch. 4) in an episode about fraternity hazing.
* A&E airing Michael Bergin’s documentary about his relationship with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in March.
* Mike Opelka is WKTU’s new assistant program director. He’ll continue to produce the “Baltazar and Goumba Johnny Morning Show.”
* James Joyella, Ch. 13’s new managing director, National Program Sponsorship, is the father of Ch. 5 reporter Mark Joyella.
* Jane magazine senior fashion editor Eric Nicholson will be a judge on “America’s Next Top Model,” premiering Jan. 13 on UPN.
