Tag, they’re it

Different shows, same line.

Buena Vista’s “The Tony Danza Show” and NBC’s “The Jane Pau ley Show” are both using the line, “A Familiar Face in a Brand New Place” to hype their respective shows. “Pau ley” kicks off Aug. 30 on Ch. 4; “Danza” bows Sept. 13 on Ch. 7.

Sal Sardo, Buena Vis ta’s execu tive VP of marketing, says BV first used the “Famil iar face” line in May – advertising “The Tony Danza Show” in theme parks – before rolling it out widely in June. Sardo says, however, that “A Familiar Face” is being used, in marketing- speak, as a headline and not as a tagline – which, for the Danza show, is “A New Daytime Talk Show.” I’m confused, too.

And the full tagline for the Pauley show, I’m told, is: “A Familiar Face In A Brand New Place – Jane is Coming to Daytime.” Alrighty, then.

As anticipated, “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” was cancelled yesterday by Twentieth Television. The show, which premiered last January, never got off the ground, ratings-wise, but still managed to corral high-pro file guests like Britney Spears. New (pre-taped) shows will air through Sept. 17. “I wouldn’t have changed anything about this entire ex perience,” said Ryan Sea crest.

Last, but not least:

* TV Guide reporting that “Sex and the City” writer Mi chael Patrick King is devel oping a “potential” HBO sit com for Lisa Kudrow.

* Kudos to Q104’s funny takeoff yesterday on “Jeop ardy!” champ “Ken” – an al lusion to real champ Ken Jennings. In Q104’s scenario, “Ken” was beaten by two kids. * How much does Emmy- nominated “Malcolm” star Jane Kaczmarek love Fox stablemate “Arrested Devel opment”? She TiVos it every week!

* Condolences to singer Arlene DeMarco, whose sis ter, Ann DeMarco, passed away yesterday. Ann, Arlene and their three sisters, The DeMarco Sisters, were TV/ radio stars in simpler times.

* Congrats to ABC’s Ca thie Levine and husband Josh Isay on the (early!) ar rival of Benjamin Abraham.
