For months, rumors have been swirling that soap star Susan Lucci was headed to “Desperate Housewives” to work for creator Marc Cherry.

Turns out the reports were half true.

Lucci, who lost her job as Erica Kane on “All My Children” last summer when the soap was canceled, is set to co-star in Cherry’s new show, set for next fall, “Devious Maids,” according to a report on Deadline Hollywood, the show-biz trade site.

The series, which is still in the pilot stage, is based on the Mexican telenovela form. It’s about four Beverly Hills maids and their well-to-do employers.

Lucci will play one of the rich bosses, Genevieve Delacourt, who described as beautiful and a serial seductress.

As her sexual powers fade, Genevieve descends into a kind of mild craziness, the report says.

Lucci starred on “All My Children” from the soap’s debut 41 years ago.

Ana Ortiz, who starred in “Ugly Betty” as the pretty sister, and Dania Ramirez, who played Turtle’s girlfriend on “Entourage,” have already been cast in the new series.

Cherry, who is wrapping up “Desperate Housewives” after eight seasons, has been looking for a while for a follow-up to his breakthrough series — a tongue-in-cheek take off on soap operas that also revived the career of another TV stalwart, Teri Hatcher.
