Nobody will ever hide behind sunglasses as stylishly as Jackie O.
But this spring, the dark oversized shades the former first lady popularized are everywhere – from the $5 vendors on the street to the counters at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss and Demi Moore have all been spotted wearing the exaggerated, look-at-me-but-don’t-look-at-me visors – hiding behind them at fashion shows and industry events, a la Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
Frames range from bug-eyed circles to sleek wraparounds. And most – but not all – are in solid black.
“People will be having more fun this spring with sunglasses,” says Melissa Meyer, an assistant buyer for LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut.
“It’s a retro look that’s coming back,” she says. “Oversize plastics are bigger than ever.”
