LOWE BLOW
YOU have to wonder about Rob Lowe. First, he quits “The West Wing,” because he didn’t get top billing with Martin Sheen. Then he’s offered one of the hottest roles on TV: Dr. Derek Shepherd on “Grey’s Anatomy.” And turns it down. So then he picks up a minor role on the soggy ABC series “Brothers and Sisters,” and comes out with his latest cheesy TV- movie, “A Perfect Day.” Here Rob plays a writer who hits it big with his first book. Success goes to his head and soon Rob is neglecting his family, his agent, the usual. It takes a meeting with a perfect stranger to set him on the right course.

THE career of composer and lyricist Frank Loesser represents the best that Broadway, Tin Pan Alley and the era of the Hollywood musical had to offer. A new documentary profiles the tough-talking musical genius who gave us “Guys and Dolls” and five dozen Hollywood film scores. His classic songs include “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “On a Slow Boat to China,” and “Heart & Soul.” Celebrated for his ability to capture everyday American life and speech, Loesser is in the same company as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and the Gershwins. His gifts are recalled by actor Robert Morse as well as singer Margaret Whiting and songwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
