Legendary songwriter and music exec Don Kirshner has passed away.

Kirshner — who gave us the music “The Monkees” sang — died of heart failure at a Boca Raton, Fla., hospital at age 76 on Monday.

He had gone to the hospital with an infection last week, a business associate told the Associated Press.

In his 50-year career, Bronx-born Kirshner hosted the 1973 to 1981 TV show “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert” — and was hired as the music director for “The Monkees” series. He also put together the studio band the Archies, creating Top 40 hits “Sugar, Sugar” and “Bang-Shang-a-Lang” for the late ’60s cartoon series “The Archie Show.”

He also discovered such musical acts as Kansas and Neil Sedaka and gained national attention for musicians including Billy Joel, The Police and Bobby Darin.
