
The sounds of summer parks
Central and Prospect parks offer fantastic concerts, but some neighborhood parks also host big names. Here’s a sample of free shows:

Aretha Franklin, Aug. 12, 7:30 p.m. Lady Soul brings respect to the Seaside Summer Concert Series.

Salt-N-Pepa, Aug. 2, 7:30 p.m. The female rappers push it real good at the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series.

*East River State Park, Williamsburg
Cut Copy, Aug. 8, 2 p.m. The indie electro-pop band from Australia plays the waterfront.

*Queensbridge Park, Long Island City
Olu Dara, July 28, 7 p.m. The father of rapper Nas plays trumpet with an eclectic sound under the Queensboro Bridge.

The Metropolitan Opera, Thursday, 7 p.m. It’s duets and arias with soprano Monica Yunus, tenor Matthew Plenk and bass-baritone Donovan Singletary.

Harlem
Doug E. Fresh, Aug. 11, 7 p.m. The beat-boxing rapper, who kicked it big in 1985, still can’t be beat.

White Rabbits, Aug. 12, 7 p.m. The Brooklyn rock sextet describes its music as “honky-tonk calypso.”
