The ‘Today’ show is changing its stance on gay weddings.

After initially refusing to open up its “Modern Day Weddings Contest” to same-sex couples — claiming that they are ineligible because they cannot legally marry in New York — the network has capitulated to pressure from gay rights organizations and is now expanding the application to include gay couples.

“Our intent was not to be discriminatory or exclusive,” “Today” said in a statement. “Moving forward, we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive of all couples.”

The contest entry deadline has been extended to July 12.
