The MTV Video Music Awards are back to spice up the summer, and the nominations for this year’s show have finally been released.
Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X are leading the 2022 pack with seven nominations a piece.
Doja Cat and Harry Styles are also in the running, following closely behind with six noms each.
Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd all scored five nods.
Meanwhile, Swift, Styles, Doja, Sheeran, Harlow, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo and Drake will all battle out on the award show stage to compete for Video of the Year.
Pop icon Madonna — who is the most awarded singer in VMA history with 20 wins over the course of her long career — is now the only artist to be nominated in each of the show’s five decades after earning her 69th nomination for “Madame X.”
The annual ceremony premiered on MTV in 1984 as a way to celebrate the best in mainstream music — and the burgeoning multimedia boom it spawned.
Kendrick Lamar has been nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Cinematography. FilmMagicThe 2022 show will air on Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The VMAs will also be broadcast on MTV as well as on The CW, BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand and VH1.
