OPRAH Winfrey transplanted her dominanace of daytime TV into prime-time Sunday night – helping to snare a huge audience for ABC.
The Winfrey-produced movie, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” snared 24.6 million viewers from 9 to 11:30 p.m., easily winning the night, beating its closest competitor, CBS, by 14 million viewers.
The movie, starring Halle Berry, was the highest-rated “Oprah Winfrey Presents” movie in seven years, and helped ABC notch its best timeslot numbers in nearly five years.
“Their Eyes Were Watching God” was also the top-rated scripted TV movie in over five years, since “One Special Night,” starring James Garner and Julie Andrews, aired on CBS in November 1999.
