Q: Where is Don Draper when the show returns?

John Hamm: When we last we saw him, his life was in a pretty serious state of flux. He just had kind of been outed to his boss for being an imposter.

He had just been incredibly vulnerable to his mistress and been rebuffed and he just realized that his family held a more significant place in his life than he thought. So I think Don has learned something-or been reminded of something.

But Season 2 is seeing how he handles that realization. And I also think that being on good behavior doesn’t mean you’ve changed.

It’s like an alcoholic is always an alcoholic, they just might not be drinking at the time.
