SET in a dull California town known for its graveyards, “Colma: The Musical” is a comatose little indie about three young friends (Jake Moreno, L.A. Renigen, H.P. Mendoza) who apply for jobs, go to keggers and burst into ironic songs about what little is happening all around them.
The songs sound like they were recorded on a toy synthesizer in someone’s basement, and neither of the two male leads can sing. Mendoza, who also wrote the script and songs, should have left this amateur project where it began: on MySpace. The movie was written in seven days and shot in 18. It shows.
COLMA: THE MUSICAL
Running time: 95 minutes. Rated R (profanity, sexual references) At the Quad, 13th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
