Animal Planet has given a short-series order to “The Bear Whisperer,” a project where professional bear wrangler Steve Searles uses humane tactics to help control the bear population in Mammoth Lakes, Calif.

The three-episode series will join Animal Planet’s far less precarious “Skunk Whisperer,” which recently was announced.
