AUDREY Hepburn fans will have a chance to grab some memorabilia tonight when the first ever public auction of one of the star’s dresses takes place at Sotheby’s.

A Givenchy ballgown, worn in “Funny Face,” of organza with hand-embroidered pink roses, will go under the hammer along with several other items, including her Louis Vuitton beauty case.

The auction – aimed at raising around $250,000 – supports the “All Children in School” campaign, run by the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund.

“It’s dedicated to bringing 120 million children around the world, two-thirds of whom are girls, back to school,” said Sean H. Ferrer, 42, Hepburn’s son and Fund chairman.

The event also launches a traveling exhibition of many never-before-seen items from the Hepburn estate, including clothes, home movies and photographs.

“She knew how to wear clothes and nothing looked bad on her, even when she wore a simple shirt and a pair of khakis,” said Town & Country editor-in-chief, Pamela Fiori of Hepburn’s enduring style.

“It’s that old cliché about restraint being the best tool for elegance.”
