SAY goodbye to “Dr. Joy Browne,” at least on Ch.2. The low-rated King World talk show, hosted by radio shrink Joy Browne, has been booted off Ch.2 after six months on the air.
“Dr. Joy,” which airs from 3 to 4 p.m., will make its final appearance on Friday, March 24.
Beginning Monday, March 27, Ch.2 will air a repeat of “Hollywood Squares” from 3 to 3:30 p.m., followed by new episodes of “Inside Edition.”
That’s good news for “IE,” which had been exiled to 2:30 a.m. following “The Martin Short Show.”
Ch.2 will continue airing new episodes of “Hollywood Squares” weeknights (7:30-8 p.m.).
“Hollywood Squares” and “Inside Edition” will now give us top-rated entertainment and long-format news stories, serving as a terrific lead-in to our 4 p.m. newscast,” said Ch.2 vice president/general manager Tony Petitti.
“Dr. Joy” never caught on with viewers here in New York and faced tough timeslot competition from “General Hospital,” “People’s Court” and “Judge Joe Brown.”
Despite its low ratings, King World hasn’t officially cancelled the show. “We’re still in production,” said a King World spokeswoman. “We’re doing a whole season and delivering original episodes in May.
“A decision for a second season hasn’t been made yet,” she said. “We’re waiting until May sweeps are over to make that determination.”
