Country singer and former “American Idol” Carrie Underwood is engaged to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, the Toronto Sun confirmed Monday.

Fisher said he proposed to Underwood Sunday. “We’re both obviously excited and very happy,” he said.

Rumors of the engagement circulated Sunday after a friend of Underwood’s family congratulated the couple on his Twitter page Sunday night.

Underwood and Fisher have been dating for about a year, but only recently made their relationship public knowledge. In September, Fisher re-signed to the Senators for a five-year, $21 million contract.
