A CONTROVERSIAL biography of John F. Kennedy Jr. is being turned into a CBS movie.

An unknown actor will play the late son of the late U.S. president to avoid the distraction of having a celebrity portray a real-life celebrity, said Ed Gernon, executive vice president of movies and miniseries for Alliance Atlantis, which is producing the film based on the book, “American Son.”

“Ben Affleck in a JFK wig just wouldn’t work,” Gernon told Variety. “I envision the script as a coming-of-age story of a young man whose life was in some sense mapped out by the society that worshipped his celebrity,” Gernon said.

The book, “American Son” by Richard Blow – one of Kennedy’s editors at the now defunct George magazine – sparked a storm of controversy last year when it was learned that Blow was writing it.

The book lost its first publisher when it was learned that Blow may have violated a confidentiality agreement against public disclosure of dealings involving Kennedy and George.

To make matters worse, former George staffers blasted Blow publicly, saying it was unseemly for him to profit from JFK Jr.’s death – especially after he had chastised and even fired some George employees for violating a gag order and talking to the press shortly after Kennedy’s fatal plane crash.

Blow’s book was finally published this week.
