EX-CNN fashion maven Elsa Klensch could be headed for NBC – and a spot on WNBC/Ch. 4.

It is expected that Klensch would serve as some sort of fashion correspondent for NBC and/or Ch. 4, in line with what she did on CNN.

“While [Klensch] was under contract to CNN, it precluded us from having conversations with her,” says Ch. 4 spokeswoman Anna Carbonell.

“But once she extricated herself from CNN, she’s a major personality in fashion – and we would certainly have an interest in her.”

The Post first reported on Dec. 22 that Ch. 4 was “sniffing around” the possibility of hiring Klensch, one of the fashion world’s biggest celebrities who had been rumored for months to be leaving CNN.

Klensch, a CNN original, left the network after 20 years amid massive layoffs as CNN parent company Time Warner merges with America Online.

Carbonell says Ch. 4 president/GM Dennis Swanson, who’s known Klensch for years, bumped into her recently and the two had a “general conversation” about Klensch joining NBC in an unspecified capacity.

“I’m talking to people and I will be at CNN a few more weeks,” Klensch told The Post yesterday.

“I decided I wanted an easier life,” she said about ending her CNN career. “I’ve covered the Paris collections 50-some times and I love fashion, but doing a weekly show for 21 years is a lot of work.

“I want to ease up and [do things like] go to the gym three times a week.

“I have no problem with CNN, no complaints,” she said. “I made the decision in October when I came back from the shows.

“When my husband picked me up at the airport I thought he looked tired. And I decided then I wanted to take life a little more easily.

“I did a piece a day for the past 20 years and nine months and I achieved a lot,” she said. “I want a less hectic pace.”
