All aboard the Polar Express – the Web site, that is.
While you’re waiting to see the big-screen version of Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved Christmas tale – or if you’ve already seen it – you can hop a ride on a virtual train from the warmth of your own computer screen.
Head over to PolarExpressMovie.com and you’ll find an interactive version of Hero Boy’s journey, starting at his house leading all the way to North Pole City.
In addition to downloadable screen savers with scenes from the flick and pictures you can color in yourself, get your game face on with “Polar Bowler,” where you launch a polar bear in an inner tube at the pins, and “Polar Express Ticket Chase,” based on the spectacular scene where the Boy chases after the Girl’s runaway train ticket.
But if computer-screen pixels aren’t enough to satisfy your inner “Polar Express” ways, head to the Donnell Library (20 W. 53rd St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues) at 11 a.m. tomorrow [msh: sunday: ]and meet the man behind the book.
Author Van Allsburg will be talking about how his tale was turned into a movie; afterward, he’ll sign any copies of the book you can bring him.
Then head back and check the Web site: Glacier Gulch is launching Monday, and over the next two weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, the final destinations – Ice Lake and North Pole City – will be unveiled.
