Getting ‘Closer’ – During the September cliffhanger, Detective Sanchez (Raymond Cruz) was shot three times and airlifted to a hospital, cradled in Brenda’s (Kyra Sedgwick) arms. Now, we find out his fate. Meanwhile, Brenda and her team are called in to investigate an apparent suicide that the coroner believes was actually a murder, turning up the unlikeliest suspect. Brenda’s parents (Barry Corbin and Frances Sternhagen) also stop by for a visit before heading off on a Hawaiian cruise.

LIFE ON MARS, Wednesday, 10 p.m., ABC

Mission on ‘Mars’ – Competition between Lt. Gene Hunt (Harvey Keitel) and the boys at the 125th Precinct and Lt. Anthony Nunzio (Vincent Curatola) and his 144th cronies goes into overdrive when the Russian mafia seems to be linked to a bank robbery. With a 9-year old boy possibly holding the key to cracking the case, the detectives at the 1-2-5 wind up having to keep an eye out for suspects and rival detectives as they go about their investigation. But it’s not all work and no play for Det. Sam Taylor (Jason O’Mara) – he spots an attractive social worker and gets hooked on her quick.

HELL’S KITCHEN, Thursday, 9 p.m., Fox

Hot as ‘Hell’ – Knives flash and tempers flare as a new batch of 16 aspiring chefs do their best to impress mercurial celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. In the fifth-season opener, the wannabes scramble to prepare and present their signature dishes to Ramsay – who is, shockingly, pleasantly surprised by some of the creations – before breaking into teams to prepare for that evening’s dinner service. The last chef standing this season gets a sweet gig as the head chef position at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

‘One’ on ‘One’ exploration – Now that President Obama is officially installed in the White House, there’s no time like today to check out his flashy new modes of air transportation: Air Force One and Marine One. In two back-to-back specials, you’ll be given a rare, in-depth look at the most photographed airplane in history and the helicopters responsible for transporting the country’s most important passenger. You’ll also be treated to tales of cloak-and-dagger operations as well as a candid interview in which former president Bush recalls what it was like aboard AF1 in the moments following the Sept. 11 attacks.

THE TRIALS OF TED HAGGARD, Thursday, 8 p.m., HBO

‘Trials’ and tribulations – When director Alexandra Pelosi was working on 2003’s “Friends of God: A Road Trip with Alexandra Pelosi,” she befriended Pastor Ted Haggard: a father of five, the founder of Colorado’s New Life Church and president of the National Association of Evangelicals. Three years later, Pastor Ted was banished from the church for admitting to “sexual immorality” and buying meth from a male hooker. In this new doc, Pelosi follows Haggard during his “spiritual restoration” as he struggles to rebuild his life and family’s reputation, moving from safe houses to cheap motels, and dealing with his same-sex attraction.

LOVING LEAH, Sunday, 9 p.m., CBS

Leaving ‘Leah’ behind – When Jake’s (Adam Kaufman) rabbi brother dies, he’s faced with a choice according to an ancient Levirate marriage law: Marry his brother’s childless widow Leah (Lauren Ambrose) or completely disavow his brother’s very existence. Jake opts to marry Leah. To the outsider, they’re the picture of connubial bliss, but behind closed doors their relationship is strictly platonic, allowing Leah to pursue her dreams and escape the watchful eye of her traditional and domineering mom, Malka (Susie Essman). Things start to heat up – for real – between Jake and Leah when Malka drops in for a visit. Ricki Lake and Natasha Lyonne also star.

MINISERIES

THE LAST TEMPLAR, Sun. and Mon., 9 p.m., NBC

‘Templar’ nights – Of all the religious military orders operating during the Crusades, the Knights Templar were the most shrouded in mystery – which is the jumping off point for this four-hour long miniseries, starring Mira Sorvino as an archeologist and Scott Foley as an FBI agent. After a 12th century decoder is stolen from a Treasures of the Vatican exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the pair embark on a race across the U.S., Turkey and Greece as they’re drawn into the hidden history of the Templars and the journey taken by the sole survivor of the order.

OLIVIA, Monday, 11:30 a.m., Nickelodeon

‘Olivia’ in action – Preschoolers, rejoice! Ian Falconer’s beloved character, Olivia, is getting the animation treatment with a new half-hour series that takes kids into the six-and-three quarter year old pig’s life, both real and fantasy. Olivia’s first adventures see her engaging in ridiculous activities to stop her younger brother from growing taller than her and transforming her house into a make-believe hotel. . .that may turn out to be haunted.
