Dame Maggie Smith is asking to be written out of “Downton Abbey” after three seasons, according to reports.

“She is filming until August and then wants to leave, going out on a high,” a source told London’s Mail on Sunday.

Smith plays the quick-witted Dowager Duchess on the series and is perhaps its most popular character.
