Guy Fieri, host of the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” says he had such a good time filming in New York for the first time that he now intends to bring the cameras back to the Baked Apple every year.

“Just yesterday I was driving down Ninth Avenue in the ’68 Camaro shooting promos, and I’m just like ‘How cool is this?’ ” Fieri said.

During two days of shooting in Manhattan last week the food TV star profiled a bar downtown, The Redhead, known for its fried chicken; a Lower East Side Southern comfort food joint, Mama’s Food Shop; and a tiny Middle Eastern restaurant in Hells’ Kitchen, Gazala’s Place, famous for its wafer-thin pita bread.

“That’s the thing — it’s not just the food,” he says. “It’s the experience, it’s the moment, it’s the smile and handshake, the sounds, the smell, the touch, the aroma, the energy.”
