Football really works up an appetite – especially if you’re watching.

Having local teams in the playoffs makes them even more nosh-worthy. So here are some tips for eating to the theme.

Deli always says “New York,” and it’s a natural for fans glued to the tube for hours. But won’t your guests be surprised if instead you fly with a Jets concept that’s a takeoff on airline food – frozen dinners. Just remember – no real knives allowed!

No? Then how about a Gang Green theme: pesto, broccoli, spinach dip, etc.

For their rival Colts, since we don’t serve horse in this country, look to the Indy 500 for inspiration with racetrack fare – fried chicken and biscuits with apple butter.

The Giants game tomorrow suggests biggie-sizing with jumbo shrimp or gigandes beans – huge, dried limas that turn buttery soft stewed with tomatoes and sage. (They’re at gourmet groceries.)

Cioppino is foe San Francisco’s signature dish, and it’s a crowd-pleaser. The fresh fish and tomato stew goes with that other Golden Gate specialty, sourdough bread. (Epicurious.com has recipes.)

Dessert? New York cheesecake, and victory!
