Steve Carell – Maxwell Smart

Otherwise known as Agent 86, Smart was the show’s central character – an inept secret agent employed by the secret government spy agency CONTROL. Originally played by Don Adams , whose nasal voice will be forever linked with catchphrases such as “Missed it by that much.”

Anne Hathaway – Agent 99

Smart’s svelte female counterpart, originally played by Barbara Feldon , her superior smarts often bail him out of sticky situations. Her character eventually married Smart and, in a later series, they had twins.

Alan Arkin – The Chief

Arkin’s character runs CONTROL and is frequently frustrated with Smart’s inability to operate with the requisite spy stealth. Originally played by character actor Edward Platt .

Terence Stamp – Siegfried

The vice president of the KGB-like villainous organization KAOS, Siegfried – originally played by Bernie Kopell , who went on to star as Dr. Adam Bricker on “The Love Boat” – is Smart’s nemesis.
