* PHISH “Undermind” [] (three stars) Elektra/Atlantic Records

Now that Phish has formally announced it’s breaking up, its new disc, “Undermind,” will have to serve as a sad swan song.

Like the tunes on the group’s last record, “Round Room,” the songs on “Undermind” come in succinct pop portions rather than supersize jams.

Musically, this disc is pure Phish. Trey Anastasio plays his guitar better than he sings, John Fishman is inventive with the beats, bassist Mike Gordon is nearly invisible (except for his duet with Anastasio on “Access Me”) and keyboardist Page McConnell is the pilot when the band heads off the map and into space.

The most-downloadable of the disc’s 14 tracks are “Tomorrow’s Song,” “Access Me,” “Nothing” and “Maggie’s Revenge.”

Bonus: If you snag one of the first 200,000 copies, you’ll also get a half-hour DVD documentary, “Specimens of Beauty,” chronicling the making of “Undermind.”
