CH. 4 snared the most local Emmys Sunday night in ceremonies held at the Waldorf Astoria.
Ch. 4 walked off with nine local Emmys, followed by Ch. 2 and Ch. 11, who copped eight Emmys apiece at the 48th Annual New York Emmy Awards.
Ch. 5’s 6 p.m. newscast was feted as Best Single Newscast under 35 minutes, while Ch. 11’s 10 p.m. newcast, co-anchored by Kaity Tong and Jim Watkins, won for Best Single Newscast over 35 minutes.
Other winners were:
* Ch. 11’s Peter Thorne for Single Hard News Story (“Death of a Dream”).
* Ch. 2 for Coverage of a Continuing Story (“Racist Video Games).
* Ch. 9 for Investigative Journalism (“Driving While Black”).
* Jane Hanson’s “Jane’s New York: Underground” for Best Entertainment Programming (Ch. 4).
* Ch. 11 for Live Sports Coverage (the Mets)
* Ch. 7’s Sarah Wallace for On-Camera Achievement (News)
* Ch. 41’s Rafael Pineda for On-Camera Achievement (News): Anchor/Host.
* News 12 Westchester for Best News Special (“Surfing for Sex Town Meeting”).
* YES Network for Teen Programming (“Kids on Deck“) and Ch. 2 for Children’s Programming (“Generation Jets“).
* Best Single News Feature: Ch. 5’s John Deutzman (“Ticket Patrol”) and Ch. 13’s “New York Voices: Chess in Schools.”
* Ch. 11’s “WB11 Morning News” for Best Single Morning News Program (“Escort This,” Aug. 2004).
* Ch. 4’s Jay DeDapper for Political Programming: Single Program or Special (“Albany Doesn’t Work”).
The New York Emmys ceremony airs tomorrow (8 p.m.) on WNYE/Ch. 25 with host Maury Povich and performances by Cleavant Derricks, Eden Espinosa, Will Swenson, Karen Mason and others.
