THE Grammy effect hit the charts this week, as the late Ray Charles’ “Genius Loves Company” earned the top slot the week after winning the Album of the Year award and seven other statuettes.

The disc sold 224,000 copies to put Charles atop Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart – his first No. 1 since 1962.

Green Day, which garnered Best Rock Album for “American Idiot,” hit No. 2, selling 202,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
