“Dane Cook’sTourgasm”
Tomorrow at 11 p.m. on HBO
(one and a half stars)
HEY, dude, could you stop saying “Dude” so much?
“Dude” has emerged as, like, the most overused word in the English language – like, even more than “like.”
In the world of Dane Cook, a 34-year-old comedian who sells out college arenas like a rock star, everybody’s a “dude.” On his new HBO series – “Dane Cook’s Tourgasm,” premiering tomorrow – he’s a “dude,” his friends are “dudes,” and in episode 2, they even go to a “dude” ranch.
Besides Cook, the “dudes” of “Tourgasm” are three other comedians – Robert Kelly, Jay Davis and Gary Gulman (who was seen on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing“) – who joined their headlining pal for a 30-day, cross-country bus tour (called “Tourgasm”) in spring 2005.
In this new nine-part series, we get to ride along as the four comedians argue, joke around, and then perform before enthusiastic college-age crowds.
For the most part, the bus scenes are a “waste” of time, since these four usually don’t have much to talk about other than flatulence, urine, bowel movements and the odors with which these are associated.
It’s a shame because the performances themselves are quite entertaining. There’s just too little of them – and too much “dude” and doody.
