PAUL Westerberg, former front man of the Replacements – the band that rocked Minneapolis – couldn’t confine himself to one CD. So “Stereo,” is a two-disc set: One is filled with more singer/songwriter Westerberg music while the second rocks more towards his Replacements roots.
Westerberg performs here three nights, beginning Monday at Warsaw (261 Driggs Ave., Greenpoint, Brooklyn; [718] 387-5252).
He appears at Irving Plaza (17 Irving Pl.; [212] 777-6800) on Aug. 27 and at the Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St.; [212] 533-2111) on Aug. 28.
TONIGHT: On his upcoming release “Dim Stars, Bright Sky,” John Doe (ex-X and former Knitter) works with others – including Aimee Mann, Jakob Dylan and Rhett Miller. He performs at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette St.; [212] 539-8770).
Man about town Dean Wareham and Luna perform songs from the band’s lovestruck CD “Romantica” at South Street Seaport’s Pier 17 at 6 p.m.
TOMORROW: Christy McWilson, a veteran of the Seattle pop music scene, brings pop-roots tunes from her latest “Bed of Roses,” to the Mercury Lounge (217 E. Houston St.; [212] 260-4700).
THURSDAY: Essex is a power rock featuring songs by front man Eric Jay (ex-Vespertines), the band’s a little bit glam and a little bit Jeff Buckley. At Don Hill’s (511 Greenwich St.; [212] 219-2850).
For one of Arlene Grocery’s classic album nights last fall, Mary Lee Kortes of Mary Lee’s Corvette performed Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” in its entirety and self-released it. The disc gained momentum and label Bar None picked it up. She’s celebrating at Joe’s Pub.
SUNDAY: Power pop icon Tommy Keene sings from “The Merry-go-round Broke Down,” at Mercury Lounge.
MONDAY: The raucous CD, “Earl Pickens and the Black Mountain Marauders: Live at the Houston Astrodome,” was really recorded at the Rodeo Bar (375 Third Ave.; [212] 683-6500), so the band’s bringing it back home.
