The mock gridiron game “Puppy Bowl” on Animal Planet enters its eighth year and I can’t deny that this is my Super Bowl. The 59 canines battle it out for touchdowns, treats and unnecessary cuteness starting at 3 p.m. This year, they’ve added a piggy pep squad, but personally, I’m looking forward to the now annual — yes, annual — kitty halftime show. The puppies include Aberdeen, a 10-week-old, snow-white Australian Shepherd mix, Augusta, a 14-week-old Lab/Plott mix, Calvin, a proud, 10-week-old dachshund, fluffy Friday, a 17-week-old Maltese/poodle mix and Fumble, a vulnerable looking Chihuahua/terrier mix who is just 9 weeks old. Meep the Bird will tweet all the action from inside the stadium and a piggy pep squad that will “ham” it up on the sidelines and squeal with delight for their favorite pups.
