LOS ANGELES — Singer Harry Connick Jr. will join “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as a guest star, playing a lawyer who romances the character played by the show’s star Mariska Hargitay, NBC said Friday.
Connick, 44, will have a multi-episode role as Executive ADA David Haden, a straight shooting lawyer who works with Detective Olivia Benson on a case.
“They are both surprised to find they work well together. As the case develops, so does their relationship,” a statement from NBC said.
Connick’s first episode will air Jan. 18.
“This is a home run on so many levels,” Hargitay said of her new co-star.
“The show is very fortunate to have Harry’s extraordinary talent, and I’m lucky because I get to work with my friend. I think Olivia couldn’t have asked for a better companion to take her through a new stage in her life and career,” she added.
The smash-hit crime drama is in its 13th season.
