SCI Fi Channel is crossing over into reality programming.

Shannen Doherty will host “Scare Tactics,” a “Candid Camera”-style show from the producers of NBC’s “Spy TV,” that’s set to debut in October as a weekly primetime series, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The show will film pranks inspired by sci-fi movies, with jokes ranging from alien abductions to haunted houses.

This is former Hollywood wild child Doherty’s first new series since her split from Aaron Spelling’s witchy WB show “Charmed” last year. Her most recent project was a cable sci-fi movie called “Another Day.”

The show is part of programmers ongoing efforts to make the channel into a more appealing choice for people who are not hard-core sci-fi fans.
