EDIE Falco says she’s not worried about viewers accepting her as someone other than North Jersey mob wife Carmela Soprano – the role she immortalized on “The Sopranos” for six seasons.

“Of course, I kept getting offers to play Italian wives” after “The Sopranos” ended its historic run two years ago, she told The Post. “People tend not to be particularly creative when it comes to that kind of thing.”

Falco met with a number of networks, both cable and broadcast, before accepting the lead role of Jackie O’Hurley in the upcoming Showtime series “Nurse Jackie.”

She was not afraid to make sure that her first big job since the “Sopranos” would have to meet certain criteria.

“It’s not rocket science,” she says. “I was on a TV show that did well and that leads to a certain amount of clout for a certain amount of time,” she said. “Next year it’ll be someone else.”

She said she wouldn’t have done another series if it meant leaving New York.

“You have to be able to know when to say, ‘This is what I want, and if you’re not interested, I’ll move on.’ ”

Falco said she was drawn to “Jackie” because “she’s a fantastic nurse who’s exceedingly competent and has her own way of doing things. Her heart is in the right place and that’s very appealing.

“She’s not interested in playing by the rules – she’s tough, single-minded and pig-headed.”
