How does America stack up on the world stage?

Tune in Christmas Night to find out as the first winner of “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson, faces off against “Idol” winners from around the globe.

The “Idol” concept, which originated in England, is so universal that the show’s producers have sold the format in 20 countries.

Eleven winners from those countries – including Clarkson – will compete in the series’ first international showcase, titled simply “World Idol.”

The 11 performers represent the U.S., U.K., South Africa, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Lebanon, Belgium, Canada and Australia.

Originating from London, this Thursday’s two-hour show will have the 11 winners performing before a panel of judges that will include the infamous Simon Cowell.

After that, you’ll have to wait a week to find out who won, since that announcement won’t be made until New Year’s Day in the one-hour Part 2 of “World Idol” (9 p.m. on Jan. 1, Fox/Ch. 5).
