ALL the laugher in comedy-land is canned this week.

Comedies that were forced to resume production this week because of tight network schedules worked without live studio audiences out of respect for victims of Tuesday’s terror attacks.

Warner Bros. “The Drew Carey Show” filmed Thursday to an empty soundstage, as did Paramount Network TV’s “Becker” and “Girlfriends” on Wednesday and DreamWorks’ “Spin City” on Wednesday and Thursday, according to trade reports.

Columbia TriStar Television’s “The King of Queens” and “What About Joan,” filmed with no audience yesterday.

Some sources told The Hollywood Reporter that d they felt it would be inappropriate to gather an audience for a comedy series taping while the nation was in mourning.

Meanwhile, companies specializing in recruiting studio audiences faced logistical problems after tapings were rescheduled because of the mass production shutdown Tuesday.

The comedies filmed with no live laughter this week will be played on monitors to an audience at a later date or a laugh track will be added in post production, studio sources said.
