THE sure sign “bling” has jumped the shark? It has its own convention.
The Envy Expo, which hit the Los Angeles Convention Center this week, was a showcase of the most extravagant jewels, shoes and cars – all eyed by wannabe rappers and ballers. The producer of the show, Mike McClain, presented the outrageous items as preview of a bigger New York event next year.
Besides more than $3 million in luxury autos packed into one hall, the Envy Expo included celebrity bling – like handcuffs owned by part-time police office Shaquille O’Neal. Of course, the handcuffs are diamond-encrusted. Shaq does nothing small, not even arrests. Here are more of the show’s highlights:
The “Big” Necklace
Worth $290,000, Shaq’s 202-karat glittering necklace is designed by Chris Capri and set in 720 grams of platinum.
Nike Air Force One
Shoe aficionado DJ Ben Baller presented some of the world’s rarest sneakers, including a $33,000 one-of-akind pair of Nike Air Force Ones. Other celebs who showed off similarly limited-edition sneakers were big names like DJ A.M. (left, with sometime girlfriend Nicole Richie).
Diamond ‘cuffs
Shaq’s diamond-encrusted ‘cuffs are worth a whopping $60,000. Designed by Capri, the crystalclear circular diamonds add up to 60 karats.
Spyker C8 Spyder
Only a handful of these $400,000 vehicles have been made internationally. With a 400-horsepower engine, this baby has a top speed of 187 mph, and goes from 0 to 100 mph in 4.5 seconds, as Sharon Stone demonstrated in “Basic Instinct 2.”
