Tired of the freezing cold? Been bundled up just a bit too long? Dreaming of beach music, swimming pools and barbecue?

Well, you’re not alone.

Warmer weather is here – finally!- which means it’s time to put away the peacoats and start shopping for a new bathing suit.

Whether you’ve got plans to rent in the Hamptons this summer, hit the Jersey Shore or just lay out on a friend’s roof, you’ll need something fresh in swimwear, and we’ve got the scoop and all the hottest trends.

Get ready to show some skin this year, as Brazilian-cut suits, tight tops and a variety of revealing shapes define the season’s skimpy, sexy new looks.

“It is the return of the eeny, weeny bikini,” says Vicky McDougal, editor of bikini.com. “People are rediscovering a new way to show off their lovely figures.”

As far as patterns go, camouflage is being hunted feverishly by trendsetters, pushed to the front of fashion by the “Survivor” craze and Destiny’s Child video. But if you want to go jungle, keep away from cheap fabrics and basic olive hues. Instead, look for more updated, shiny camouflage suits with rhinestones or clear dots.

Animal passion is also in, as scaly fabrics with a luster, like python or alligator, charge forward. But leave behind anything in leopard or rattlesnake; those skins are biting the dust.

Polka dots, florals and stripes are also popping up everywhere.

“Designers just went crazy this season with polka dots: tiny little dots or big dots,” says McDougal. “It’s reminiscent of old, beach party movie posters.”

Adorning a suit is something everyone seems to be doing. Beads, fringes, loops, lattice and back lacing all will make appearances this year, as will tie-side pants and low-rise pants. Also making waves are the “ini” suits: monokini, tankini, bikini and bandini.

Experts say swimsuit trends are being determined largely by the hip scene in South Beach.

Hawaiian designer Lisa Letarte, for example, says she’s drawn inspiration from living right on South Beach. And Italian designer Eleanor Pompei, a Pompei Beach resident and best friend of supermodel Daniella Pestova, offers innovative, beach-friendly geometric creations like the sexy bandeau suit.

Also in the mix are Shoshanna Lonstein, who launched her cherry-colored swimsuit collection at Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor this season, and designer Aerin Rose. Both create great suits for the larger, fuller breasted gal. (“They address the customer who is bustier and can’t find something that’s youthful, snappy or that wink,” says McDougal.)

Malia Mills, who has a store at 199 Mulberry Street, focuses on suits that are sold as separates. For a clean, minimalist look, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger all have great new suits. For fun geometrics, the best designer is probably Norma Kamali, who has been in the swimwear business for 30 years.

“She knows the body better than anyone and she is the master of asymmetrical lines, great fabrics, neutrals, metallic, and amazing unexpected shapes,” says McDougal.

But make sure to hit the stores now while the latest trends are thriving. Already several magazines have been putting out features and shopping tips for buying the right suit, including the May issue of Glamour, which offers page after page of great-looking suits and sound advice.

“Get educated about swimwear and get inspired before you hit the streets,” advises McDougal. “It’s nice to go out there and say, ‘I know what I’m doing.'”
