How the mighty have fallen. Mel Gibson, who’s gone from movie superstardom to box-office poison, has struck a deal to release his next movie, “Get the Gringo,” directly to satellite TV, completely bypassing movie theaters.

Gibson and DirecTV have inked a deal in which “Get the Gringo” — Gibson plays a guy who lands in a Mexican jail — will premiere on the satellite TV service and cost subscribers $10.99 per viewing, according to reports. That’s way up from the $4.99 or $5.99 DirecTV usually charges for on-demand releases.

Last year, the company tried a “Home Premiere Service,” in which users were charged $29.95 for a single movie, but that bombed and was canceled by DirecTV, according to tvpredictions.com.

Gibson’s last movie, “The Beaver,” tanked at the box office in the wake of his controversial public meltdowns the past several years — including anti-Semitic and racially tinged statements and the public, extremely nasty breakup with his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva (in which profane voice mails, allegedly left by Gibson to Grigorieva, were leaked).

“Get the Gringo” will also be released later this year on Blu-ray and on streaming video services, according to various reports.
