SPOILER ALERT!

The voice on the phone was no one you’ve ever heard of. Fans of “The Sopranos” have been obsessed this week with trying to identify the voice of the “wife” who Tony Soprano called on the telephone during his multi-part, coma-induced dream in last Sunday’s episode on HBO.

Tony’s dream occurred while he lay unconscious in a hospital intensive-care unit after being shot in the abdomen a week earlier by his deranged Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese).

In the dream, Tony (James Gandolfini) imagined he was a law-abiding family man, a salesman in the precision-optics field who was attending an industry convention in California.

After leaving a hotel bar, he discovers that he has picked up someone else’s wallet and briefcase instead of his own – a mixup that wreaks havoc on his travel plans.

When he calls home to tell his “wife,” the voice did not sound like Carmela (Edie Falco), triggering speculation that the North Jersey mob boss subconsciously yearns for a different home life.

So whose voice was it saying, among other things, “Ton’, how ya doin’?” and “You’re off in your own world, you’re too distracted with work”?

Viewer guesses have centered on at least four possibilities – Charmaine Bucco (Kathrine Narducci), who once admitted to Carmela that she and Tony slept together before he and Carmela were married; the late Adrianna La Cerva (Drea de Matteo); Tony’s late girlfriend, Gloria Trillo (Annabella Sciorra); and even Carmela, with Falco disguising her voice.

Yesterday, however, HBO confirmed it was none of the above, but declined to reveal the identity of the woman on the phone, saying she was not famous enough to be familiar to “Sopranos” viewers or Post readers.

“They cast an actress to do the voice on the phone,” said a spokeswoman. “I have been asked by [the producers] not to divulge the name.”
