The buzzy new “Sabrina” reboot has a lot going for it: It’s stylish, slick, and stars Kiernan Shipka, who played Don Draper’s hell-raising daughter on “Mad Men.” Unfortunately, however, the 2018 version gets something very, very wrong.

Sidekick cat Salem is here, but in this iteration of the show, he doesn’t speak, which is total BS.

The original “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” starred Melissa Joan Hart as a half-witch, half-mortal juggling magic with high school life. It aired from 1996 to 2003 — first on ABC, then on the WB for its final three seasons. Even people who weren’t regular viewers remember that Sabrina’s cat, Salem, voiced by Nick Bakay, had a lot to say.

With his rich back story, it made sense. Salem was actually an evil warlock who once plotted to take over the world; being turned into a cat was his punishment. Aside from Sabrina, he was the only character to appear in every episode.

Some TV characters feel dated as years pass, but Salem 1.0 remains relatable. Consider wry musings such as, “Someone’s gonna end up crying. Probably me,” or “I need a little fresh air and a latte.”

Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” out Friday, retains the premise of the original, but for some unfathomable reason, show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Riverdale”) has decided to ditch the feline wisecracks.

With the recent boom in TV reboots, some change is inevitable. The new “Murphy Brown” has been retooled for the social-media age. The “Charmed” reboot changed the witchy sisters’ names.

But a “Sabrina” that silences Salem? Supernaturally wrong.
