While you may love takeout food, many pooches prefer homemade meals. And in response to that, more and more New Yorkers are making that extra effort to serve their dogs specially prepared dishes, rather than giving them food straight out of the can or bag.

“Americans are becoming increasingly concerned about healthier lifestyles and diets, and that concern is extending to their pets,” says pet expert Charlotte Reed, director of the Manhattan pet-care service Two Dogs and a Goat. In fact, Reed says that two of her clients – a husband and wife, both psychiatrists – cook for their canines.
