After days of staying silent about a wave of bitter attacks that called her recent special on India “ignorant,” Oprah Winfrey finally defended herself.

“I am so disappointed that some people thought I was insulting,” Winfrey tweeted yesterday, in response to a fan.

“I was asking a QUESTION [her emphasis] to inform about the culture.”

The Indian establishment unloaded on Oprah last week after an episode of her show “Oprah’s Next Chapter” aired in India.

“It’s all the stereotypes and all the clichés the West has, between the elephants and the palaces and the snake charmers and cows,” wrote one columnist.

The scene that got her in the most trouble was when she asked a family she was dining with: “I heard some Indian people eat with their hands still.”
