American singer Billy Joel is recovering after undergoing double hip surgery to treat a congenital hip ailment.
“He did them both at the same time,” Joel’s ex-wife Christie Brinkley told RadarOnline Wednesday.
“He’s really doing well … really coming through with flying colors,” the former supermodel said about the Long Island, N.Y., native who in prior months was spotted using a cane to alleviate his hip pain.
“He’s making it look easy,” she added.
Joel, the third best-selling solo artist in the US, recently hinted he would like to return to touring once he is strong enough to perform on stage.
He was married to Brinkley from 1985 until they divorced in 1994 — though the two remain on friendly terms since their split. They had one daughter together, singer Alexa Ray Joel, who is now 24.
The 61-year-old singer, pianist and composer began his musical career in the 1970s — releasing a series of hits including “New York State of Mind,” “Just the Way You Are” and “Uptown Girl.”
