TRADING PLACES (1983)

Friday, 7 p.m., Spike

The first and only movie co-starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, but one of the best for both actors. The rich Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche) make a bet about what will happen if they switched the circumstances of a street hustler (Murphy) with a snobby commodities broker (Aykroyd). No one does hustler better than Eddie and no one does snob like Dan. Hilarious classic.

THE PINK PANTHER (1963)

Saturday, 9 p.m., PBS

The first in the “Panther” pantheon is this hilarious, quintessential 1960’s jet-setter movie about a jewel thief obsessed with the “Pink Panther” diamond, and the totally incompetent, accident-prone Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), obsessed with nailing him. It all takes places at a chic Swiss ski resort filled with beautiful people including Clouseau’s suspiciously gorgeous and sophisticated wife, played by the gorgeously sophisticated Capucine.

LOVER COME BACK (1961)

Sunday, 7 a.m., AMC

Not the first, but definitely the funniest of the Doris Day/Rock Hudson comedies, is this laugh-out-loud beaut about a “lady” ad exec who tries to steal an account from a male rival for a product called “VIP.” Only problem is VIP doesn’t exist and neither does the scientist who “invented” it. Best scene? Hudson getting fitted by an old Lower East Side tailor for a hideous green tweed suit.

AIRPLANE! (1980)

Sunday, 2 a.m., Spike

The first and definitely the best of the disaster movie spoofs. Here, a love sick former Navy pilot (Robert Hays), who’s afraid to fly, must take control of the plane — along with a basketball star/co-pilot (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) — when everyone aboard gets food poisoning. Making you laugh ’til you cry are Lloyd Bridges, Julie Hagerty, Robert Stack and yes, Leslie Nielsen.
