With Alain Delon, Claudia Cardinale and Paola Stoppa.
A TIME TO KILL, 1996
Tonight, 8 p.m., SPIKE
John Grisham’s edge-of-your-seat thriller about the rape of a 10-year-old African-American girl in the rural south by two white racists, and the resultant revenge murder by the child’s father (Samuel L. Jackson). Despite efforts of the NAACP, the father hires his friend (Matthew McConaughey) to defend him. The all-star cast includes Sandra Bullock (right), Kiefer and Donald Sutherland.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL, 1984
Monday, 8 p.m., AMC
Two versions of Dickens’ beloved Christmas tale — one a newish version starring George C. Scott and Nigel Davenport, and the classic 1930s version starring Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart. Three ghosts visit Ebenezer Scrooge, a rich, but very mean old codger on Christmas Eve, and force him to examine his miserable life.
THE CAINE MUTINY, 1954
Saturday,
8 p.m., TCM
This film was nominated for seven Oscars (didn’t win any), including a much-deserved Best Actor nomination for Humphrey Bogart, who stars as Lt. Cmdr Queeg, a ruthless Navy officer in charge of an insignificant ship during WWII. He is removed from command and put on the sick list by the second in command (Van Johnson). A court-martial is convened to decide if it was an act of mutiny, or an act of heroism. With Fred MacMurray.
