KLUTE (1971) Sunday,12 moon,Oxygen When his friend goes missing, a small-time detective (Donald Sutherland) moves to the Big Apple. His only lead is a letter his pal wrote to a hooker (Jane Fonda), whom he blackmails into helping him. Excellent.
ALIEN: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT (2003) Tuesday, 11 a.m., FX The great one that started it all – about a cargo ship with a mixed crew of misfits like Tom Skerritt and some muscled female NYP TV WEEK cargo handlers like Ridley (Sigourney Weaver). The cargo they have aboard this time unfortunately includes a horrifying alien. This version includes bonus footage because too much “Alien” is never enough.
JEZEBEL (1938) Wednesday,11 p.m.,TCM Even though she didn’t get the role of Scarlett, Bette Davis nailed this fantastic clone. She’s brilliant as an antebellum vixen who causes no end of misery to everyone – before she redeems herself. Davis may not have gotten “Gone With The Wind,” but she did get an Oscar for this “Jezebel.”
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951)
Thursday,6 p.m.,AMC This sci-fi classic stars Michael Rennie, as both Klaatu the alien and Carpenter, an alien disguised as a human. He’s come to earth to tell people that unless they cool it with the aggression, they’ll be sorry. Clearly, the earthlings do not get the message. This is still a great one.
